Movie Review: One Day

Earlier in the week I went to watch ‘One Day’ starring Anne Hathaway & Jim Sturgess. It’s a love story about how Dexter (Sturgess) & Emma’s (Hathaway) lives evolve on the same day each year.

Firstly, I have to say the story line is fairly predictable.

Is that a bad thing? Not really. I mean, when you go see a Rom-Com starring Jennifer Aniston, you expect her to meet someone that’s going through some sort of crisis. Some heartbreak & tears later, that man turns around and realises SHE’S THE ONE. And when I watched LOTR, I knew good will eventually conquer evil.

Well, this is not the same, but you will come to expect the outcome.

The two leads are both good actors on their own, but there is something a little odd about them at times. May be it’s the accent, may be they didn’t feel the characters keenly. Either way, performance is good, chemistry is not …entirely there.

What I DID like about the film though is the way it made me feel about my relationship. It made me appreciate it a lot more, it reminded me of the happiness of my own relationship. AND, some of the clothes were really pretty. Parisian pretty. Pay attention to Dexter’s mother’s costumes, played by Patricia Clarkson.

Overall, this is a good movie, but not great. I would still go to the cinema to watch it if I didn’t get a free ticket.

I give it 2.5 out of 5.
