One of the best thing about having a local showing you around a city as oppose to just tour guides is definitely when they take you to places you will never find on your own. Last night, we were taken to a roof top cafe called Quando Cafe located in TST, Kowloon.
This cafe (being in full in-cognito mode) can be accessed through an entrance that looks like an office building. They close at 1am on a Sunday night, which for a tourist with no curfew, it was fan-freaking-tastic. The address for this cafe is Level 4, Granville House, 41 C-D Granville Road, TST, Kowloon.
When you do get out of the lift once you’re on Level 4, you’ll see the terrace part of the cafe right away because it’s really not that big.
Being so dense in Hong Kong, finding a roof top in places other than Lan Kwai Fong is rather rare (as I am told). And when I was given the opportunity to go there, I jumped at it.
Even though you are surrounded by tall apartments, it’s nice to have a view above the street signs.
I suppose being on the open terrace still exposes you to the sound of the busy street, but somehow, there is some level of serenity without the movements of the pedestrians. One thing though, there are a lot of smokers in Hong Kong, so being an outdoor terrace cafe, you are bound to be surrounded by them. I am told there are times when they are not visited by anyone. So if you are a non-smoker, hopefully you’ll catch one of those moments…
