Happy New Year!

2015

Happy New Year everyone! I know we’re into the 3rd week of January 2015 and the new internet sensations have probably started and died, and here I am wishing everyone a happy new year.

Truth is, the last month hasn’t been the easiest for me. Long story short, during my Christmas holiday, I was told my grandmother passed away and I had to fly back to Shanghai as soon as possible. Once I got to Shanghai, I received the sad news that one of my guinea pig passed away.

While I can’t accurately describe what I feel, I’m just so grateful for everything that I have and the wonderful people that are around me who made this less than pleasant experience as easy as it possibly can be.

So I spent majority of Sydney’s New Year’s eve on the plane, and the early morning of 2015 new year unpacking my suitcase. I hope everyone else had a better start to the year than I did; if you too had a rough start, I hope you are blessed with friends and family who helped you through the tough times.

NYC:SNOW | SYD:HEAT

While New York get a feet of snow dumped on the city, Sydney is getting swept away by this ridiculous heat. One thing is for sure, Summer is here!

SUMMER IS HERE award winning ice cream

Looking forward to an amazing weekend, with a wedding and a picnic. Look out for more pretentious posing and my version of fashion editorial on my Instagram account.

Toodles.

Sometimes I wonder how do the professional bloggers find materials to write, and how do they share something personal without sounding obnoxious or over share? At times, I would be desperate to post something yet not being able to write anything. Since I made the pledge to post things weekly, I’ve been jotting down all the posts that I could create, and yet I still struggle to write sometimes.Thankfully, the Liebster Award encourages bloggers to write more & share some of their favs. Here are some of the rules:

1.You must answer 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you
2. You must list 11 random/fun facts about yourself
3. You must pick 11 nominees with under 200 followers to answer your questions.
4. You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.
5. You must let the person you’ve nominated know that they’ve been nominated.

Here are the eleven questions asked by Berlinstorm who nominated me:

Who was your favourite teacher in school and why?

I honestly don’t know. In the last year of my high school, EVERY SINGLE teacher were supportive and inspiring. I cannot name just one because they all went above and beyond what they required to, in order to help us do well in the university entrance exam. NOT because they were forced, NOT because we asked them to but simply because they believed in us.

What is your proudest moment in life so far?

When I completed a particular painting.

What is you next move/step in life?

This is a hard question. Mostly because it really makes me reevaluate my own ‘plan’. I never think about the big plan with a specific move in mind, mostly because I try to be prepared and seize an opportunity when it presents itself.

I’d say my big goal in life is to one day live in a warehouse conversion with large windows and enormous paintings. So I’d work towards that.

What are your guilty pleasures?

I don’t have any guilty pleasures.I used to think listening to Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber was a guilty pleasure because they were hated by others; but then I realised that music is subjective, I shouldn’t let other people’s opinion of music dictate my choice.

When do you realise that you were an “adult”

Err….haven’t yet. I’m only 29.

Where is your “happy” place or favorite place to visit?

Any antique stores. One where it’s a LARRRRGE warehouse space. Or an art gallery with a large body of work.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

If I could live anywhere, it would still be Sydney. The more I travel, the more I’m convinced it’s the best place to LIVE. You could work and play in other cities, but there is no better place to grow old and spend time with your loved ones in.

What can’t you live without?

Apart from the necessities, I’d say chocolate.

What is your ultimate life goal?

Live & convert a warehouse into a home.

What do you wish you could do if you had more time?

I’d play more piano, paint more, read more, dance more.

If you could go back in time what era would you live in and why?

I wouldn’t go anywhere. This is the BEST time.

I live in an era where I receive proper education, and as a middle class gets to eat fine food, while travelling to exotic places and see things before it gets destroyed by mankind.

11 Random/Fun facts:

(Everyone have a bunch of things that they can’t do, but I’m going to highlight some of my better qualities by telling you things that I CAN do and the things that I love!)

I can play the piano

I think baking is an art as well a science; so I love recipes that are really specific, like: ‘Add the flour, fold 15 times.’; not ‘Add the flour. Don’t over mix, but don’t under mix either.’

My favourite men’s cologne is Ralph Lauren Safari

There is only one Hercule Poirot, and he is played by David Suchet

I love antique market

I don’t do this often, but I love living alone

I love the feeling of stepping out on winter day, that is so cold it feels like my nose is about to fall off

If I’m ever so fortunate as to have kids and I get a choice, I’d like just one girl

If I can have any dog, I’d pick Welsh Corgis

I have 2 guinea pigs

If I have LOTS of money and I can do whatever I like, I would like to build a school in rural China

My really deep and insightful questions are:

What is your biggest fear? Not phobia, fear.

If you could be an expert in one useless subject, what would it be?

If you have to leave your children one thing from your home right now, what would it be?

If the 17 year old version of yourself asked you for one advice, what would you give him/her?

What can’t you live without?

What is your life goal?

What is the best quality that you possess?

If you have a chance to speak to one dignitary for 1 hour, who would you choose to speak to?

What would your last question for that dignitary be?

What do you wish you could do if you had more time?

If you have to compact your life into one backpack, what would you put into it?

Hello there!

Hello There!

A big, gigantic hello from Hong Kong.

After 10 hours of walking around in a hot & humid Hong Kong I have made 3 conclusive findings:

1. I’m so so unfit;
2. Hong Kong people LOVE 7 Elevens & Sasa;
3. I cannot deal with large crowds for an extended period of time.

This is only my second time in Hong Kong; the last time I was here was back in early February 2008. Let’s start with the fact that I have forgotten just how hilly Hong Kong is; then climbing the hills in 30 degrees Celsius heat just makes it that much more intense. Every time I feel I’m about to die of thirst, I’m saved by those 7 Elevens that are literally 200 meters apart from each other. Making them truly convenient.

While part of the appeal of Hong Kong is the hustling and bustling, I’m starting to find that being part of the hustling is actually really draining. What’s more, I feel like I’m constantly dodging things. People are coming for you in every direction and believe it or not, there is water dripping from the air conditioners from up above. By the time I’ve walked past the 10th 7 Eleven, I feel like I’ve gone through several levels of a computer game and I’m ready for the boss fight. Only this game is called LIFE.

Over the next week and half I hope to share some interesting stories of my trip to HK. In the mean time, I’ll be looking for foot massage places…

Food For Thought: Fur | Faux Fur | No Fur

anna wintour andre leon tally carine roitfeld kate moss

Here in Sydney, winter is coming and consequently, so is fur.  And fur is as sensitive of a subject as religion.

Often, topics like these can spark all kinds of fury and unreasonable remarks. Yet, I still want to hear your thoughts on this. Now before you skip to the end of this, I really want you to hear me out. This is not a blog post that is trying to ‘defend’ anyone, this is to get people to think CRITICALLY.

Personally, I’ve been somewhat intrigued by fur since I was little; it’s such a luxurious and opulent product and oh sooo pretty. But, it’s wrong. Is it wrong to WANT fur? Nope. We all want pretty things. But it’s wrong to BUY fur. Why? Because the fact that a lot of fur was farmed and obtained in unethical and inhumane ways. Some fur farms beat animals or skin them while alive. While not ALL fur were obtained in this manner, buying fur is indirectly promoting these type of cruel behaviour because of demand and supply.

Now, here are some of my questions:

If you would not wear REAL fur, would you still wear faux fur?

If you believe fur is murder, then why is using leather goods acceptable, especially when we know it may have came from a calf?

Have you ever done any research yourself on fur farming? If you have, are they reliable sources that is not from their own marketing campaigns or website?

Kate Spade Saturday

So I might be late to all this, because after all I’m NOT a hardcore Kate Spade fan. But I am a fan.

Well, now there is a Kate Spade Saturday! Well, it’s obviously the more casual line considering it’s got “Saturday” in its name.

Here are just some of my favourite items. KATE SPADE SATURDAY

1. Skinny Jeans; 2. Sunnies; 3. Half Circle Bag; 4. Short Glasses; 5. Linked In Bracelets; 6. Slippers; 7. Full Circle Bag.

How cool is the splatter pattern???? And how cool are those glasses? I can’t get over it. I’m not usually into patterns and colours, but I’m soooooo into these.

Not-Over-The-Top Accessories for Valentines Day

I don’t own anything in the colour red. Okay except nail polish. Oh and cups given to me by other people. But seriously, I don’t own any accessories in red.

It’s not that I don’t like the colour, in fact I love red, but I just don’t think it’s the red colour for me. Kinda like feeling towards Channing Tatum. I think the guy is really good looking, but I’m just not attracted to him. You know what I mean sister??

Well, once in a while I don’t mind accessorising with red, you know to get into the mood of love. If you too don’t have a thing for red, here’s how we can accessorise with these Not-Over-The-Top items:

valentines day not over the top accessories

1. Toddler Girl Ballet Flats {Target}; 2. Doodle Heart Card {Wit & Whistle}; 3. Kate Spade Glasses {Zappos Couture}; 4. Red Ceramic Cup {Poketo}; 5. Dior Nail Polish {Sephora}; 6. Drake’s Cupid Arrow Print Pocket Square {Mr. Porter}; 7. Patent Toe Flats {Walnut Melbourne}.

Happy New Year! More Gosling and Fassbender

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

What do you know, it’s 2013!!! It’s incredible isn’t it? How time flies? I swear I remember last year’s Christmas as if it was 2 weeks ago. Oh it was?? Hum.

Well, as more and more of my friends prepare to get married this year, my own wedding planning will also slowly pick up its pace. In this coming year, you’ll be sure to catch lots of wedding planning stuff. Of course, I would post at a humanly tolerable paces, but I’m not guaranteeing about anything.

AND COUNT ON ME to post more men’s stuff, like Ryan Gosling or Michael Fassbender or just….hot guys. Mostly, I’ll be sharing lots of posts of my perspectives on men’s outfits and what I think is occasion appropriate clothes.

Finally, I would want to slowly unveil a small project I’ve been working on, maybe towards the end of the year (that is besides my wedding and this blog) and hopefully, it’ll come out sooner rather than later.

In the mean time, I would like to share with you something I came across only very recently: the GQ Cover Portfolio. It’s basically the archive of GQ covers over 50 YEARS!!!!! And it only just include really hot men and women. In suits or practically naked. So, while I go and prepare for my second blogs of the year, feast your eyes on this, and take a few hours to go through this page. Yes I did just typed HOURS.
